Author Angela James on How Writers Can Create a Brand Readers Trust

Every writer is a small business

In this video clip, author Angela James talks with BookBaby president Brian Felsen about how a writer can build a consistent brand that readers will automatically trust.

Firstly, authors must treat their own writing as a business, not as a lark or hobby. No matter if you’re self-publishing or traditionally publishing, you should look at your writing as a serious professional activity. Write every single day– rather than in longer, periodic bursts.

Secondly, you must recognize within your own writing the thing that readers most enjoy; that quality should be present in every work you put out so that fans will feel like an unspoken promise has been fulfilled when they purchase and read each subsequent book. Consistency and quality create trust; trust creates a fanbase (or platform)! And fans, after all, are the ones who’ll buy your books.
