Kobo Sold to Japanese Internet Service Company Rakuten

Yep. It’s true. Kobo has been acquired by Rakuten for a cool $315 million.

Here is some fortunate news for our neighbors (or is that neighbours?) to the north, from the official press release:

Led by Kobo CEO Michael Serbinis, Kobo will continue to function as a stand-alone operation with its headquarters, management team, and employees based in Toronto.

Check out the full press release HERE.

And yes, Kobo will remain one of BookBaby’s favorite distribution partners.
